Kristina’s “Nearly Missed” Maternity Portrait
Kristina is a talented celebrity makeup artist and a good friend of mine. When it comes to getting work done, she is effective and efficient like laser beam, but when it comes to certain other things, boy can she wait.
Talk about last minute…
Two weeks before Kristina’s due date she messages me and wanted to do a maternity photoshoot. “It’s now or never so we gotta do this!” She said. So we quickly arranged a date a week from the call.
Dun Dun Dun…
Night before our photoshoot, it starts raining and it rained hard. The location we selected was a hiking trail with lots of greens and muddy road. Worried about her safety, I message Kristina wondering if she wants to cancel. “But the baby is coming in a week! Anytime now!”
Next day I wake up. First thing I rush to the window to see if the sun came out and I see a little sun ray peaking in and out behind heavy clouds. Fingers crossed I drive to Kristina’s place and we head out to the trail together. Five minutes into the drive, little rain drops start falling. We kept driving and I secretly planned not to let her get out of the car if there is any sign of muddiness on the trail.
We arrive, sun comes out, and the trail looks good! We circled around to find a semi-tucked away spot. Kristina comes out of the car with daddy-soon-to-be cheery as ever and we start shooting. An hour and half later, Kristina calls it quits and we wrapped up quickly with some final shots that she wanted to do.
Tired and relieved, we walked back to the car. Kristina asked if I wanted to touch her belly and showed me where was the little baby’s foot. “Oh my god! I can’t wait to meet the little guy now!” Excited, I drove home and started reviewing the beautiful photos we got from the day.
Evening comes, I shared with my hubby how surreal it was to touch the baby’s foot in his mommy’s belly while scrolling through some Facebook updates and there it is: “Congratulations to Kristina and her beautiful healthy newborn baby boy!” “Jon! Jon! Look! Look at this!!” I screamed pointing at the post, “This is the baby! This is the foot I just touched this morning!”
Husband chuckled and we both looked at the baby photos with amazement. Boy, can she wait.
