Intimate Wedding at Boutique Rockwell Cafe
Meet Susie and Ivan
I met Ivan many years ago. After not seeing him for at least five years, out of blue Ivan called me. “Guess what! I met this amazing woman and I am getting married!” Through common friends he found out I was now a Santa Monica based Los Angeles wedding photographer and he wanted me to be a part of his wedding. He couldn’t stop gushing about his soul mate, Susie. He told me that he believed it was a miracle that the two met, and how he never thought he’d be so lucky to call her his wife one day.
The Intimate Wedding
Susie and Ivan’s special day was held at the lovely Rockwell Café, which was a small neighborhood rustic café. Everything was very intimate and lovely. I could tell the list of attendance was carefully selected and I felt extremely honored. The style was a boutique DIY wedding that was tastefully decorated. Every small detail was carefully placed and chosen. Every piece reflected them as a couple and their love story. I always told my girlfriends, weddings don’t need to be extravagant in order to be perfect. A wedding can still be gorgeous if we pay special attention to the details and ambience.
The couple didn’t hire a professional wedding planner for this boutique DIY wedding. Instead, Susie asked a friend to help, which can work in this small sized wedding. As a Santa Monica based Los Angeles Wedding Photographer, I normally recommend against hiring a personal close friend to coordinate their wedding. While friends may know you the most, they aren’t as objective as a professional wedding coordinator. During planning, personal feelings may get in the way and cause more stress for the bride. Also, a friend is still a guest and running a wedding isn’t always fun and glamorous. When cocktail hour kicks in, often the bride and groom may be left to deal with issues on their special day instead of enjoying the party.
The ceremony was held on the second floor and the altar was on the balcony. While the space was tight, we were able to cram all the important friends/family in. Because of the closeness, the energy was unusually intimate and it felt very sacred. When the bride entered, everyone fell silent and tears glimmered in some of the guests’ eyes. The vow, the speech, and the promises, everything was perfect in that moment. Congratulations Susie and Ivan! May this beautiful beginning last until the end of time for you and your newly found family.
Ivan told me that this is their “love mascot” I mean what else do I need to say… 🙂
